- Pop. 3,647. In Seymour T., Northumberland C., on the Trent R. and C. Rds. 8,30,38 & 50, 53 km. E of Peterborough.
- The first settlers came to the area in 1806, but in the early 1830s there was an influx of military men who had received land grants. Maj. David Campbell and his brother, Lt.-Col. Robert Campbell, were granted 1,800 acres (729 ha) in 1831.
- The Trent R. was crossed by a ford a short distance from the present bridge in the centre of town, and since the Campbells owned the site, it became known as Campbell's Ford.
- The town is headquarters of Ontario's first Fish and Game Protective Association, founded in 1878.
- From Ontario Place Names 2007 David E. Scott Ph. 866 471 4123 or 905 680 7884
