- Pop. 11,565. In Gunterman T., Algoma Dist., on Elliot and Home Ls. and Hwy 108, 29 km. N of Hwy 17 and 165 km. W of Sudbury
- In 1948 prospectors Aime Breton and Karl Gunterman discovered radioactive ore near Lauzon L. in Long T., south of the present town.
- In 1953 an ore body was discovered that became the Pronto Uranium Mine. By 1954 a road had reached the present townsite, and in 1955 the fIrst mill was operational.
- A town was planned to accommodate up to 30,000 residents, but demand for uranium dropped and the population never exceeded 20,000. A post office, named for the lake on which the town is located, opened in 1956.
