- Pop. 6,525. In Bentinck T, Grey C., on the Saugeen R. and C. Rds. 4 & 10, 61 km. S of Owen Sound.
- The first settler, in 1848, was innkeeper Abraham Buck after whom the settlement was named Buck's Bridge and Buck's Crossing. Subsequent names were Adamstown and Slabtown.
- When the post office opened in 1856, the place was named for the province of Hanover in Germany.
- In 1906 Noah Brosso (1881-1955) of Hanover, calling himself Tommy Burns, became the first Canadian to win the heavyweight boxing championship of the world.
