Description From Owner:
- Pop. 3,531. In Lochiel T., Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry Cs., on the Garry R. and C. Rds. 10,34 & 43, 110 km. E of Ottawa.
- In 1794,40 families from various Highland clans emigrated from Scotland under the leadership of Alexander MacLeod and settled near the site of present-day Alexandria.
- The community was founded in 1819 when Rev. Alexander Macdonnell built a grist mill, and was first known as Priest's Mills. Macdonnell was later the frrst Catholic bishop of Upper Canada.
- The post office opened in 1825 as Alexandria, honouring the pioneer, Alexander MacLeod.
