- Pop. 1,258. In Kenora Dist., 12 km W of the mouth of the Attawapiskat R. and Akimiski Strait on the W side of James Bay, 210 km NW of Moosonee.
- This Cree settlement is a trading post on the site of an old Hudson's Bay Company post and can only be reached by air or water. The name may derive from the Cree words atawao (trader) and pisket (divided) -- as in a trading place near divided waters.
