- Pop. 463. In Herschel T., Hastings C. on Hwy 62 and C. Rd. 5, 6 km N of Bancroft.
- By the late 1800s the community had a sawmill operated by Thomas French, a cheese factory and blacksmith shop.
- It was originally served by the post office at nearby Beechmount which no longer exists. The origin of the name is not known.
