- Pop. 540. In BonfIeld T., Nipissing Dist., on the NE tip of Nosbonsing L. at the mouth of the Kaibuskong R. at the end ofHwy 531, 3 km.S of Hwy 17, 24 km. E of North Bay.
- In the 1880s, BonfIeld was a stop on the great lumber drive from L. Nipissing to the Ottawa R., and most of its settlers were drivers from eastern Canada who took up land grants in the township.
- When the CPR main line arrived in 1882 the station was named Callander, now the name of a community a few kms to the west.
- In 1896 the name Bonfield was adopted for both the station and the post office, honouring James BonfIeld of Egan ville, member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for Renfrew South 1875-1883.
