- Pop. 300. Part ofthe Town of Pickering, Reg. Mun. of Durham, at the headwaters ofDuffm's Cr. on Hwy 7 and C. Rd. 1, 10 km NW of Pickering.
- In 1807 Thomas Hubbard and John Major built log homes on what is now the townsite.
- The place was known as Howell's Hollow and Bentley's Corners before the post office was established as Brougham in 1836. The name was chosen by early pioneer Nicholas Howell to honour Lord Brougham, an eminent Scottish peer.
