- Pop. 18,182. City in the Reg. Mun. of Niagara, on L. Erie at the Send of the WeIland Canal and Hwys 3, 58, & 140, 10 km. S of WeIland.
- The first recorded settler was Robert Richardson in 1802, but permanent settlement did not start until construction of the WeIland Canal in 1832.
- The place was first known as Gravelly Bay but was named after Lt.-Gov. Sir John Colborne, governor of Canada, by Hon. William Hamilton Merritt.
