Description From Owner:
- Pop. 2,500. In Reg. Mun. of Hamilton-Wentworth on Glen Cr. and C. Rd. 504, 1 km. N of Hwy 8, 4 km. NW of Dundas.
- The place was known as Franklin Corners and Joyce's Corners until the post office was established in 1853 as Greensville after pioneer settler William Green who settled in 1799.
- A half mi. (.8 km.) W of Greensville was Crook's Hollow, where James Crook operated Upper Canada's first paper mill.
- Crook built the mill in 1826 because of the growing domestic market and the high tariff imposed on imported paper.
- The mill operated until it was destroyed by fire in 1875. In 1860 Greensville was the home of Ontario's largest distillery, which was converted to a malt house in 1870.
- From Ontario Place Names 2007 David E. Scott Ph. 866 471 4123 or 905 680 7884
