- Pop. 131. In Simcoe C., immediately N of Hwy 11, 14 km NE of Barrie. In 1867 settler Thomas Guthrie prevailed upon friends back home in Scotland for funds to build a local Presbyterian church.
- The money was forthcoming, but with one stipulation: the settlement must be named for the popular Scottish minister, Dr. Thomas Guthrie. When the post office opened in 1876, Thomas Guthrie was the first postmaster.
