- Pop. 159. In Tuckersmith T., Huron C. on Hwy 8,34 kIn SE of Goderich. Dr. William Chalk settled here in 1834 and built the township's first brick house which he named Harpurhey.
- . Dr. Chalk likely came from the village of Harpurgey, now part of Manchester, England.
- By the mid-1860s the community's population approached 500, but in 1858 when the Buffalo, Brantford and Goderich Railway came through, it established a station at nearby Seaforth.
