- Pop. 84. In Huron C. on Hwy 8 and C. Rds. 18 & 31, 13 krn SE of Goderich. In 1830 Samuel and John Holmes explored the area and then returned home to Ireland to bring their families here two years later.
- The place was called Holmes Hill and then Holmes Villa before being named Holmesville in 1855 when the post office opened with William Holmes as the first postmaster.
