Description From Owner:
- Pop. 244. Part of the Town of Dunnville, Reg. Mun. of Haldimand-Norfolk on L. Erie and C. Rds. 3 & 65, 16 km. W of Port Colborne.
- The community was settled in the early 1800s, and the post office was established as Lowbanks in 1865. It is a popular summer resort for people from Buffalo and Hamilton.
- At one time there were two telephone companies in Lowbanks, which resulted in bizarre 'long distance' charges for telephone calls between some neighbouring homes and buildings.
- The community was so named because the L. Erie shoreline here has low banks as opposed to the high banks in Sherbrooke T. where there is a community named Highbanks.
- From Ontario Place Names 2007 David E. Scott Ph. 866 471 4123 or 905 680 7884
