- Pop. 1,159. In Kinloss T., Bruce C., on Nine Mile R. and C. Rds. 1 & 86, 18 km. NW of Wingham.
- Eli Stauffer, a German from Waterloo C., accepted a government offer in 1856 of 200 acres (81 ha) of land to anyone who would build a mill on Nine Mile R., which empties into L. Huron at Port Albert.
- The founder of the settlement is considered to be James Somerville of Dunfermline, Scotland, who laid out village lots in 1858. The community took its name from Lucknow in India, which was much in the news during the bloody Indian Mutiny of 1857 -1858.
