Description From Owner:
- Pop. 261. In the Reg. Mun. of Ottawa-Carleton, on the Rideau R. and C. Rds. 8 & 13, 17 km S of Ottawa.
- The settlement dates to 1860 when Moss Kent Dickinson and Joseph Currier built a flour mill around which a small industrial complex formed, including a sawmill and textile mill.
- Part of the community is on an island in the Rideau R. The post office was established in 1864 and named Manotick, a First Nations Peoples word meaning 'long island.'
- The mill and some original machinery has been restored to working order by the Rideau Valley Conservation Authority. Now called Watson's Mill, it is open to the public.
