Description From Owner:
- Pop. 490. Part of the Town of Halton Hills, Reg. Mun. of Halton on the Credit R. and Hwy 7, 10 km. SW of Brampton.
- The community was founded by James McNabb, a veteran of the Battle of Queens ton Heights in the War of 1812. In 1820 McNabb built a dam across the Credit R. and established flour, flax, and sawmills.
- His leg was crushed by a millstone in 1830, and had to be amputated above the knee, after which he leased his mills to John Barnhart.
- The place was fIrst called McNabbville, but when a post office was opened in the mid-1800s it was named Norval, possibly for Norval Creek in Vermont from which area a number of settlers had come.
- From Ontario Place Names 2007 David E. Scott Ph. 866 471 4123 or 905 680 7884
