- Pop.269. In Ashfield T., Huron C., on L. Huron at the mouth of Nine Mile R., 1 km. E ofHwy 21, 15 km. N of Goderich.
- The place was laid out in 1842.by the Land Department as a townsite, but the community, despite its pretty location, never developed much beyond its present population.
- The place is shown as Hawkins Mills on an 1862 map and the same map shows a town plot named Albert. The place may have been named after Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria.
