- Pop. 109. In North Elmsley T., Lanark C., on the Tay R. and C. Rds. 18 & 43, 10 km W of Smiths Falls.
- Before the post office opened in 1852 the community had been called Barbados and later, Pike's Falls. The township was named after John Elmsley (1762-1805) who was named chief justice for Upper Canada in 1798.
- He was also chief justice of Lower Canada 1802-1805 and in both provinces was president of the Executive Council and speaker of the Legislative Council.
