- Pop. 162. In Lanark C., at a narrowing of the Rideau R., where Lower Rideau L. joins Big Rideau L., on C. Rd. 1, 12 km. SE of Perth.
- In the early 1800s the place was called Oliver's Ferry after William Oliver who operated a ferry at this crossing point. When the post office was established in 1889 it was called Rideau Centre. A decade later the name was changed to Rideau Ferry.
