- Pop. 950. In King T., York C. on Hwy 9 and C. Rd. 27, 44 km. of Toronto. In 1860 the place was named Brownsville in honour of brothers Garrett, John, Robert and Thomas Brown, early settlers from Pennsylvania.
- When application for a post office was made in 1861, that name was not accepted as there was another Brownsville in the same county.
- The post office opened in 1862 as Schomberg after the Duke of Schomberg (1615- I 690) commander-in-chief of the British forces in Ireland who was killed in the Battle of the Boyne.
