- Pop. 87. In Stanley T., Huron C., on C. Rds. 3 & 31,26 km SE of Goderich. Settlers from Scotland arrived in 1831.
- There is no record of a community name until 1854 when Josiah Brown Secord arrived, built a store at the crossroads and operated the post office.
- He named the place after the Bulgarian fortress-seaport which then was the embarkation point for soldiers going to the Crimean War.
