- Pop. 2,334. In Winchester T., Stormont, Dundas, and Glengarry Cs., on C. Rd. 3 just E of C. Rd. 31, 51 km SE of Ottawa.
- Ben Bates, who arrived in 1836, was the first recorded settler. The place was named Bates Corners until the post office opened in 1855 as West Winchester after the township.
- The township had been named after the Colonial Secretary, the Earl of Winchester. Some sources claim the place was named after the City of Winchester in Hampshire, England.
- In 1890 the name was shortened to Winchester.
