I just ordered a popcorn shrimp. The shrimp tasted so good. The outer covering was so crispy and light. The service was too good. The order was brought within 5 minutes and you get to see it being freshly made. Loved the ambience and the service. Worth the visit and would love to visit again too.

Excellent Halibut and Chips. Very generous portions. Crispy batter, tasty chips. Malt vinegar provided along with other standard condiments. Decor is sparse and functional - no need to dress up. Parking: Street parking easily available most of the time.

We found this gem while staying at ferris provincial park!! Unfortunately we ran out of propane and needed something for dinner we got the halibut with fries and gravy and a poutine, the food was amazing the piece of halibut was was massive, a great cut for sure!! the fries were delicious and fresh! The poutine was on point as well the service was great and very friendly plus they gave me plenty of condiments I'd definitely recommend stopping in if you're in the area its worth the drive

I've taken my family to many fish and chips restaurants and this is most definitely number 1! Friendly and great service! I've been taking my family here for 3yrs and I'm always amazed. Funny story, when we first ordered we had ordered the 2 piece haddock. When we started to open it, I thought they made a mistake because there were 4 good sized portions of fish. I went back and said I think you gave us someone else's order. She said, nope that's the way he does it. I was shocked and I never went to any other fish and chips restaurant after that. Thank you to everyone there. Bryan

We love the halibut fish and chips. Easily the best we’ve ever had, from the east coast to the west coast. Awesome fish.

Great halibut and amazing pie/cheesecake with great service. Special thanks for serving us 20mins before closing and for being so hospitable when we left 20mins past. It was a great meal for some tired workers.

Best Fish in Eastern Ontario! We are a group of over a dozen friends who visit the Captain's Table in Hastings 2-3 times annually. Some of us drive 2-300Km for these get togethers. The Halibut is great and contrary to the August 2008 review above, is great. WE find the service good and cordial. Agreed, the decor looks like it came out of the 50 or 60's but who cares - it is clean and we go for the food! The single helping is too much for many people so they will 'split' the order so you can share with someone else! The calamari is the best I have tasted - anywhere - and we are all food lovers who travel a lot and make a point of sampling seafood at all the 'reputable' restaurants! Every person to whom we have recommended a trip to Hastings has agreed that the fish is worth the drive! (ps.. try the seafood platter, my fav - delicious!)

There's a reason why we'll drive from Toronto for a plate of their fish n chips.

Best Fish and Chips this side of the pond, portions are generous and the staff are friendly and helpful.

The Captains Table always gives more than fair portion sizes, has excellent service and the tastiest assortment of food in town! Plus I found the menu online, so I could wait at home for my order to be ready!

John Austin on 20-Apr-09
