Description From Owner:

The community originated as a stopover point on the Opeongo Colonization Rd., which was largely completed by 1854.
The settlement, first named Barry's Camp on the Bay, Polish immigrants who arrived in the 1870s, drawn by the lumbering industry.
The post office was named Barry's Bay when it opened in 1876. Today the pretty village is the main shopping and outfitting centre for the Madawaska Valley tourist region.
