Pop. 11,565. In Gunterman T., Algoma Dist., on Elliot and Home Ls. and Hwy 108, 29 km. N of Hwy 17 and 165 km. W of Sudbury
In 1948 prospectors Aime Breton and Karl Gunterman discovered radioactive ore near Lauzon L. in Long T., south of the present town.
In 1953 an ore body was discovered that became the Pronto Uranium Mine. By 1954 a road had reached the present townsite, and in 1955 the fIrst mill was operational.
A town was planned to accommodate up to 30,000 residents, but demand for uranium dropped and the population never exceeded 20,000. A post office, named for the lake on which the town is located, opened in 1956.
