  • Pop. 9,723. In Essa T., Simcoe C., 19 km. SW of Barrie on C. Rd. 10 just S of C. Rd. 90 and Pine R.
  • To encourage settlement in the area, the govern¬ment ordered the survey of the Sunnidale Rd. west of Barrie in 1833, but settlement was slow.
  • Jonas TarBush bought a farm near the proposed village site, and when the Canadian Northern Railway line was being built nearby in 1857, TarBush and William Proudfoot laid out a village site.
  • They named it Angus in honour of Angus Morrison, a director of the railway and a member of the Parliament of Upper and Lower Canada.
