- Pop. 175. In Mara T., Simcoe c., on The Narrows between Ls. Couchiching and Simcoe and Hwy 12 and C. Rd. 44, 5 km. E of Orillia.
- The post office was established as Atherley in 1851. Shortly after the area was settled, land- hungry settlers forced the relocation of a band of Ojibwa led by Chief William Yellowhead.
- The First Nations Peoples were moved in 1838-39 to a new reserve in nearby Rama Township. Atherley was incorrectly named after the Township of Azerley in Ripon, Yorkshire, England.
