- Pop. 296. Part of the Town ofCaledon, Reg. Mun. of Peel, on the West Br. of the Credit R. and C. Rds. 1 & 11,24 km. NW of Brampton.
- The area was settled before 1850, and by 1852 the community was known as Tubtown because a large octagonal iron tub used by the local blacksmith to cool hot metal dominated the centre of the village.
- When a Mr. McCurdy built a mill, the name changed to McCurdy's Village, but the post office opened in 1853 as Belfountain, sometimes spelled Bellfountain. The name was chosen by the town fathers,
- , describing the clear waters of the Credit R. as a 'beautiful fountain.'
