- Pop. 4,353. In Rochester T., Essex C., on L. St. Clair at the mouth of the Belle R. and C. Rds. 22 & 27, 31 km. E of Windsor.
- Most of the settlers in the early 1800s were of French extraction and came from the Detroit R. area.
- The post office was established in 1854 as Rochester, but in 1874 the name changed to Belle (French for 'beautiful') River.
