Description From Owner:

Pop. 4,353. In Rochester T., Essex C., on L. St. Clair at the mouth of the Belle R. and C. Rds. 22 & 27, 31 km. E of Windsor.
Most of the settlers in the early 1800s were of French extraction and came from the Detroit R. area.
The post office was established in 1854 as Rochester, but in 1874 the name changed to Belle (French for 'beautiful') River.
