The community, on an old pioneer route known as Proof Line Road, was named when the post office opened in 1857 by settler John Griffith, after his hometown in County Offaly, Ireland.

Hello.....People of this web site fet your facts right! I grew up in the small hamlet of Southgate and according to your map it is located at the corner of 13 and wonderland Rd. WRONG It is located on teh corner of the the 14 concession and Wonderland road...I mean really the southgate cementary is on the corner wow you have absolutely no idea where it is do you! If your going to research my small hamlet at least get it right!!!! Patricia
