- Pop. 336. In Dereham T., Oxford C., on C. Rds. 10 & 20,10 Ian W of Tillsonburg.
- The place was first known as the Dean Settlement after David Dean who had bought land in the area prior to 1840.
- In 1841 Brinton Paine Brown, a Methodist minister, arrived with his family from New York State. They were followed by the Loucks and Dennis families. By 1854 when the post office opened, the community was known as Brownsville.
