Pop. 1,685. In Burford T., Brant C., on C. Rd. 53, 14 km W of Brantford.
Benagah Mallory built the first home in Burford in 1794, the year after it was surveyed and named after a place in Oxfordshire, England. Pipe organs made by the Burford Organ Builders are in many Canadian churches.

Good, however the date of Burford's beginning is incorrect: Yes Mallory may have settled there in 1794, with his wife and family, however his father-in-law Abraham Dayton was there in 1793 after receiving the patent for the township of 'Burford' Nov. 24th, 1792. The Mallory's followed Dayton into Burford, which had already been named 'Burford' by the government even though it was only a place on their map and not yet surveyed. In 1793, Augustus Jones surveyed the outline of the Township and a couple of concession lines for settlers to follow. The survey of all the concessions and lots did not happen until 1798, by surveyor John Stegmann.
