Ontario Tourism Region : Muskoka, Parry Sound and Algonquin Park
Description From Owner:
- Pop. 862. In Armour T., Parry Sound Dist., on the Magnetawan Rand Hwy 11,40 km N of Huntsville.
- Named after the first settler, David Francis Burk, who arrived from Oshawa in 1876. The site ofthe present village was known to lumbermen before Burk settled.
- They camped here while guiding logs over the falls.
- In 1879 the steamship Pioneer was launched on the Magnetawan R., and for the next 50 years it provided the only efficient means of transportation between the railhead at Burks Falls and small settlements along the river.
