Pop. 98. In Harvey & Smith Ts., Peterborough C., on the Trent Canal and Lovesick and Stony Ls., on Hwy 28 just S of its junction with C. Rd. 36, 32 km N of Peterborough.
The nearby township of Burleigh was named in 1822. The community's site was surveyed in 1864 by J. W. Fitzgerald.
The place was called Burleigh Rapids, Burleigh Falls Locks and Burleigh Sault until being named Burleigh Falls in 1864 after William Cecil, Baron Burghley (1520-1598), Queen Elizabeth 1's chief minister.
The first postmaster in 1864 was James Goldboume, first reeve of Burleigh T.
