  • Pop. 378. On a First Nations Peoples reserve of the same name on a peninsula on the Georgian Bay shore of the Bruce Peninsula, 25 km. NE of Wiarton.
  • The 17,000-acre (6,885 ha) tract ofland was one of five set aside in a treaty signed in 1854.
  • The first fur traders called the place Pointe au Portage and the First Nations Peoples called it Neiyosheonegaming. The peninsula was named after John Wilson Croker, an early secretary to the British Admiralty.
  • Peter Kege¬¨donce Jones, who came to the peninsula with his wife in 1852, was elected the first chief of the reserve. Before then the First Nations Peoples had been ruled by hereditary chiefs.
