Pop. 709. In Teck T., Timiskaming Dist., on Hwy 66, 3 km SW of Kirkland Lake.
The post office was established as Chaput Hughes in 1932, honouring 1911 era gold prospectors Ed Chaput and Jim Hughes. The Teck-Hughes Gold Mine opened in 1913.

I had the good fortune to spend the first 12 years of my life in Chaput Hughes. This was back in the late 40's,50's until the Beaver/Kirkland Lake Gold mine closed in 1960. There are many informative pages on Facebook and elsewhere on the Internet where you can relive your past looking at wonderful photos and interesting stories of people who lived in Chaput Hughes.

I believe I was born in Chaput Hughes in 1939 but the birth certificate register place was Kirkland Lake . Is there anyway you could verfy this and if so give me a addtress. My father was Benjamin C. Blodgett and my mother was either Kathleen Black or Crawford. I maybe up the way this summer and it was nice to see where I was born if the place is still there.
