Pop. 431. In Raleigh T., Kent C., on C. Rds. 8 & 10, 12 km SE of Chatham.
The fIrst settlers were an Englishman named Cook and a man named Samuel Hall. The place was fIrst known as Cook's Corners.
When the post office was established in 1860 the community was named Charing Cross, likely after the English hamlet of Charing Cross, now completely absorbed by London.
