- Pop. 431. In Raleigh T., Kent C., on C. Rds. 8 & 10, 12 km SE of Chatham.
- The fIrst settlers were an Englishman named Cook and a man named Samuel Hall. The place was fIrst known as Cook's Corners.
- When the post office was established in 1860 the community was named Charing Cross, likely after the English hamlet of Charing Cross, now completely absorbed by London.
