Pop. 7,400. Part of the Town of Rays ide-Balfour, Reg. Mun. of Sudbury, on the Whitson R. and C. Rd. 14, 19 km NW of Sudbury.
Established when the CPR line passed through the area in 1886 and named after a town in Essex, England.
There were silver, lead, copper, and zinc mining booms in the 1890s and 1920s. A major fIre in 1909 destroyed many businesses.
