- Pop. 711. In Minto T., Wellington C., on Coon Cr. and Hwy 9 & C. Rds. 2 & 30, 85 km. NW of Guelph.
- The first settler was Francis Brown, who located in 1854 on a parcel of land obtained from the Crown. When a post office was established in 1856, Brown became postmaster and named the village Clifford after his hometown in Yorkshire, England.
- In 1867 the residents of Clifford celebrated Canada's birthday with a building bee, erecting the rafters of a grist mill built by public subscription.
