- Pop. 1,960. In Colchester South T., Essex C., on L. Erie and C. Rds. 13 & 50, 29 km SW of Leamington.
- area was settled in the late 1700s by United Empire Loyalists.
- In the I 860s Colchester became one of the busiest ports on the N shore of L. Erie, but in 1890 the Lake Erie and Detroit River Railway bypassed the town by 8 km, diverting business to Harrow.
- The community was first called Sackville, but that name was changed to Colchester in 1831 after the township, named after the City of Colchester in England.
