- . The area was settled in the 1780s by United Empire Loyalists led by Capt. Michael Grass.
- The settlement was named Collinsby and later Collins Bay in honour of deputy surveyor John Collins, who laid out the townsite. Collins Bay Penitentiary is one of 10 prisons in the vicinity.
