Pop. 917. In Norfolk T., Reg. Mun. of Haldimand-Norfolk, on Hwy 3, and C. Rd. 38,7 km. SE of Tillsonburg.
The first settler was Lot Tisdale who arrived in 1823. When the London District was divided into townships, this place was the centre of Middleton T., and named Middleton Centre.
In 1861 a post office was petitioned and named Courtland because divisional courts, which had been held at nearby Fredericksburg (now DeIhi), were moved here.
