- Pop. 49. In Norfolk T., Reg. Mun. of Hal dim and-Norfolk, 6 kIn N ofL. Erie between C. Rds. 23 & 28, 28 km. SE of Tillsonburg.
- The community was known as the Laycock Settlement until the post office opened in 1879.
- The new name is said to have been suggested by teacher John L. Buck and township reeve Thomas Chamberlain who felt it was appropriate because the settlers were 'a cultured class of people.'
