Pop. 3,869. In Delhi T., Reg. Mun. of Haldimand-Norfolk, on Big Cr. and Hwy 3 and C. Rds. 24, 37 & 59, 18 km. E of Tillsonburg.
'The Tobacco Capital of Norfolk' was settled in the early 1800s by the Sovereen family and was fIrst known as Sovereen's Corners.
When Fred Sovereen laid out a townsite in 1828 he called the place Fredericksburg, but that name was in use elsewhere and the post office chose the name Middleton.
In 1832 the first postmaster, Robert Decow, renamed the town Delhi after the capital city of India.
