- Pop. 261. In Lake of Bays T., Dist. Mun. of Muskoka and Sherborne T., Haliburton C., at the junction ofHwy 35 and C. Rd. 117, and eastern arm of Lake of Bays , 48 km NE of Bracebridge.
- The community started around 1856 on the Colonization Rd. which ran from Bobcaygeon into the Haliburton area. By 1859 It was known as Cedar Narrows and then Colebridge to honour early settler Zac Cole.
- When the post office opened, settlers wanted the place called Sherbourne after a town in Dorset, England. Sherbourne was already in use as the name of the township, so residents suggested Dorset, likely after the English county.
