- Pop. 1,978. In the Reg. Mun. of Sudbury on Hwy 144,25 km NW of Sudbury.
- The first settler in the region was a Mr. Wilson from the Ottawa Valley. He was in the area in 1884 helping clear the CPR right-of-way and thought the place so beautiful that he and his wife moved here in 1891 and built a log house.
- The town and former township, now absorbed into the Reg. Mun. of Sudbury, is named after John F. Dowling, MLA for Renfrew South.
