Pop. 239. In WestWawanosh T., Huron C., on C. Rd. 1, 17km NE ofGoderich.
The place was laid out as a townsite in 1855 by William Mallough and named after his hometown in County Tyrone, Ireland.
A post office had been opened in 1852 just S of the village and named Wawanosh after the township, which took its name from Chief Joseph Wawanosh of the Chippewa on the Sarnia Reserve.
After the townsite was surveyed, the post office was moved here and renamed Dungannon.
