- Pop. 239. In WestWawanosh T., Huron C., on C. Rd. 1, 17km NE ofGoderich.
- The place was laid out as a townsite in 1855 by William Mallough and named after his hometown in County Tyrone, Ireland.
- A post office had been opened in 1852 just S of the village and named Wawanosh after the township, which took its name from Chief Joseph Wawanosh of the Chippewa on the Sarnia Reserve.
- After the townsite was surveyed, the post office was moved here and renamed Dungannon.
