Pop. 14. In West Gwillimbury T., Simcoe C. on C. Rd. 27, 42 km NW of Toronto.
Two explanations are provided for the origin of this place name. A Col. Tyrwhitt, MP for South Simcoe is said to have named the place to please an Irish settler.
The more likely explanation is that when the post office was opened in 1885 the place was named to honour Lord Lansdowne, Baron Dunkerron, Governor-General of Canada 1883-1888.
