Ontario Tourism Region : York, Durham and Hills of Headwaters
Description From Owner:
- Pop. 14. In West Gwillimbury T., Simcoe C. on C. Rd. 27, 42 km NW of Toronto.
- Two explanations are provided for the origin of this place name. A Col. Tyrwhitt, MP for South Simcoe is said to have named the place to please an Irish settler.
- The more likely explanation is that when the post office was opened in 1885 the place was named to honour Lord Lansdowne, Baron Dunkerron, Governor-General of Canada 1883-1888.
