- Pop. 1,315. In Dunwich T., Elgin C., on C. Rds. 8 & 13,2 km. S ofHwy 401, 35 km. SW of London.
- The settlement developed in the 1870s at the intersection of the Canada Southern Railway and the Currie Rd., named for John Currie, a pioneer settler.
- The crossroads then was called Monkey Run. Selecting a name split the young community into three feuding factions.
- One group favoured the name Lisgar, after the incumbent governor general of Canada; another wanted Bennettville for George Bennett, who had surveyed and laid out the village plot, and the third group wanted Dutton, to honour the railway companys engineer
- When the post office opened in 1873 it was named Dutton Station, but 'Station' was dropped in 1881.
