Pop. 1,315. In Dunwich T., Elgin C., on C. Rds. 8 & 13,2 km. S ofHwy 401, 35 km. SW of London.
The settlement developed in the 1870s at the intersection of the Canada Southern Railway and the Currie Rd., named for John Currie, a pioneer settler.
The crossroads then was called Monkey Run. Selecting a name split the young community into three feuding factions.
One group favoured the name Lisgar, after the incumbent governor general of Canada; another wanted Bennettville for George Bennett, who had surveyed and laid out the village plot, and the third group wanted Dutton, to honour the railway companys engineer
When the post office opened in 1873 it was named Dutton Station, but 'Station' was dropped in 1881.
